Hometown: Memphis, TN
When did you first start CrossFitting: Sept 11,2013
Tell us about your sports & fitness background: I played Tennis, Soccer, and Discus during HS but fell off the fitness wagon in college. I started lifting (poorly) at the end of college to fill the void.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit: Casey Hutnick (badass NorCal Regionals competitor) introduced me to CF after we taught English together in Fiji. My first workout was a 9/11 Firemen tribute that involved handstands, a 1K buddy carry, and some god-awful number of lunges. I could not do a handstand and could barely finish the lunges. The next day I could not make it up the stairs to my second floor apartment (that did not have elevators -___- ). I was hooked after that!
What sort of changes have you seen in your body since starting CrossFit? My body is completely different now. I am stronger, no longer smoke and eat a (relatively) healthy died because of CF.
What impact has CrossFit had on your life: CrossFit has had a huge impact on my life. It introduced me to a great community of people who want to help others, redirected my life (I am now a personal trainer and work with kids who need help!), and gave me a huge amount of respect for my determination and strength. Before CF, I never would have believed my body could be capable of a 300# Deadlift or even a single pull-up!
What is your advice for people just getting started or thinking about starting CrossFit: Give it a try! You might find something you love!
What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit: Hobbies=coloring & juggling. Crossfit does not help with those. Interests=science & picking up heavy things. Crossfit helps with this. Talents= eating & cooking. CF helps with these as well.
Do you have a pet: Yes, Freya!
